TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto have long been close competitors in the motorcycle market of less than 250cc and now also seem to be taking the competition to the electric mobility space. In less than fifteen days after the official launch of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter, TVS has presented its own electric scooter. Called TVS iQube, the scooter offers a range of 75 kilometres with a single load. The iQube TVS is currently on sale only in Bangalore for a road price of Rs 1.15,000.

TVS Motor iQube, the scooter has a claimed riding range of 75km per charge

While the Bajaj Chetak sports a curvy style inspired by the Vespa, the TVS iQube adopts a white and square design similar to the Honda ASIMO. Powered by three lithium-ion battery packs, the iQube’s electric motor emits 4.4kW of power. TVS says it is enough to drive the scooter from 0 to 40 kilometres per hour in 4.2 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 78 kilometres per hour. The IP67 rated battery can be charged with the included charging kit and a 5A household outlet. While a full charge may take up to 5 hours, TVS says a “day trip” can be achieved with just one hour’s charge.

The TVS iQube presents a group of digital instruments in the form of a colour TFT screen, which shows the battery charge status, service reminders and other driving data. Like the Bajaj Chetak, the TVS iQube connects to the user’s smartphone via Bluetooth for extended functionality. With the optional TVS SmartXonnect service, an iQube user can use features such as geofencing and incoming call alerts. They can also enable step-by-step navigation in the instrument cluster when your smartphone is connected.

The iQube comes with LED lighting everywhere. It has a “Q-park assist” system that allows the user to remove the scooter from narrow places more easily using the power of the electric motor. It has a storage compartment under the seat that is equipped with a USB charging port. According to TVs, the scooter can manage gradients of up to 10 degrees. The front brake is a 220 mm disc, while the rear brake is a 130 mm drum. The scooter weighs 118 kilograms. Currently available only in Bangalore, the TVS iQube can be ordered online at the TVS Motor website here.
